Project Description
Seeking an experiential space for relaxation, leisure, and nature, the project starts from strong formal and spatial premises: two bodies, an esplanade, and a solid arched stone wall. With the main motivation of establishing a poetic dialogue with the landscape, it becomes an integral part of the dwelling.
The general composition is structured in two volumes. A lower level, inserted into the slope of the plot and hidden from view for those who arrive at the site. This is discovered when descending from a lateral staircase that leads to the exterior Esplanade. Contained in the terrain and materialized with cuatrapeada stone, this solid foundation references a cavern, the most primitive and synergistic form of inhabiting a space.
A second volume –accessed from the interior– is juxtaposed on top. It has a completely opposite intention. It demarcates the position and rises among the trees. It tells the story of a small cabin in the mountains, but suggests there is more to discover. Lightweight, with a traditional tile roof and wooden structure, delimited by windows. Here, the security of the solid stone shelter is not present, and one confronts nature, exposed.
A semicircular stone wall contains the terrain –and the esplanade– where the construction is inserted, and creates a contrasting view from below. Here the camouflaged cabin is a solid hacienda upon the rock. As one descends the terrain, a series of terraces modify the slope to make it suitable for cultivation, and additional spaces complete the necessary utilitarian program.
